As W2 time approaches, make sure you do these steps so you’re ready

Update on new masking guidelines for clinical areas

Due to the rise in our region of influenza, COVID and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) cases, Ballad Health will require team member masking in all clinical areas, effective Thursday, Dec. 21. This applies to our hospitals, outpatient clinics, long term care facilities and Ballad Health Medical Associates (BHMA) locations. This requirement covers team members, medical staff and vendors, but only in clinical areas. Masking for visitors will remain optional, although we do want to make visitors and patients aware that, for both our safety and theirs, our team members are masking in these critical areas. This will help protect vulnerable patients from the spread of seasonal respiratory illnesses, and also help keep our team members healthy so we can maintain safe staffing levels to care for our patients. Ballad Health statement on Greeneville chemical leak

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – On Wednesday morning, Dec. 20, Ballad Health was notified of a chemical leak at La Quesera Mexicana in Greeneville, with multiple patients expected to arrive at Greeneville Community Hospital. By 11 a.m., the health system received reports of potentially dozens of patients who would need care. Incident Command Centers were established at both Greeneville Community Hospital and Johnson City Medical Center to allow teams to best allocate resources and utilize the Ballad Health Trauma Network. In total, the system received 25 patients from the incident. As of 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Ballad Health ceased operations at its Incident Command Center at Johnson City Medical Center, and the command center at Greeneville Community Hospital followed suit at 4 p.m. Throughout, Ballad Health was able to maintain sufficient clinical coverage on staff and on standby to treat the influx of patients. Our third SPLAT hand-hygiene day is Wednesday, Dec. 20

In an effort to promote handwashing and infection prevention protocols across Ballad Health, we’ll be hosting our final game of “SPLAT!” on Wednesday, Dec. 20. It’s a fun way to reinforce the lessons learned at recent hand hygiene review sessions. We also held SPLAT! days in October and November. WHO: The campaign is for all clinical team members at Ballad Health inpatient facilities and long-term care areas (but not outpatient clinics). WHEN: Our final SPLAT day of 2023 is Wednesday, Dec. 20. PRIZES: Participants can win prizes, including Dollywood tickets, Barter Theatre tickets and the grand prize of an Apple Watch Series 8. Ballad Health welcomes new administrator to Hancock, Hawkins counties as facility leader retires

Ballad Health welcomes Rogersville native Hunter Hamilton as the next administrator of Hancock County Hospital and Hawkins County Memorial Hospital as Regina Day, the facilities’ current administrator retires after five years of successful leadership. Regina Day concluded her 22-year in healthcare on Friday, Dec. 15, after a tenure that began in 2002 as an accountant at St. Mary’s Hospital in Norton, Virginia, which would eventually become Norton Community Hospital. She was responsible for finance management for seven Ballad Health’s facilities, including Hawkins County Memorial Hospital and Hancock County Hospital, until 2018, when she accepted the role as administrator for those two facilities. Under Day’s leadership, both facilities have earned several awards and accolades. Hawkins County Memorial Hospital earned national recognition as an IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospital for three consecutive years, and Hancock County Hospital was named by the National Rural Health Association as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital for best practice in…
