Be safe! Use these day-to-day safeguards against COVID-19

COVID-19
  1. Wash your hands front and back with soap for 20 seconds, including in between your fingers, with warm to hot water.
  2. Avoid touching your nose, mouth or eyes with contaminated hands. If you need to touch your face, wash hands first to ensure they are clean.
  3. Depending on your comfort level you can wear a mask in public, covering both nose and mouth – pinching the nose piece to curve to your face.
  4. When arriving home, wipe down your car: steering wheel, door handle, floor board and control panel.
  5. Leave shoes outside of home or in the garage, preventing additional germs from bottom of your shoes to enter your home. Some wipe down or spray with Lysol their shoes and let dry for next use.
  6. If you are going to stay home for the remainder of the day, remove clothes worn in public and change into home clothes. Avoid sitting on sofa, bed, or kitchen chairs until you change to prevent additional germs saturating your material.
  7. For women who use a purse or anyone who carries bags with them for work or a diaper bag: Wipe down or spray with Lysol these items, especially the bottom as it touches a lot of surfaces.
  8. Other items to remember to wipe down or spray with Lysol: Your cellphone/cover, sport bands like Apple watch rubber wrist band, door handles, refrigerator handles, sink knobs, and toilet handles within your home. If you have leather furniture, you can wipe down, as well.
  9. Clothes: COVID-19 can stay on fabric for 6-12 hours. Try not to shake your clothes either while wearing or when taking it to the laundry room. This can release germs into the air making it airborne.
  10. Gloves: Several people feel more comfortable wearing gloves in public, however if not worn correctly and disposed of properly, you can contaminate yourself more. Gloves can also give a false sense of security, allowing individuals to let their guard down.
  11. Boxes: Several of us are having items delivered to the house, like Amazon purchases. The COVID-19 germ can stay on cardboard boxes for up to 24 hours. It is best to open your package on the front porch and leave boxes outside. Remember if you use a knife or scissors to open, disinfect them when you come inside, along with the items you just purchased.
  12. Bringing groceries home: Remember to wipe down items before storing them away, wipe down the area where you set the groceries to unpack, and wash your hands when completed.
