Last week we included these tips in our COVID-19 weekly briefing. In case you missed it, here they are again for those who need to talk to others about the importance of wearing a mask. Widespread use of masks isn’t always popular – but it is undoubtedly effective at controlling COVID-19. Just as with seatbelts, general hand hygiene and other public health issues, while shifting public opinion about health-promoting actions can be challenging, it is possible. While there’s no one easy communication solution, these quick tips can help: Start with your goal. Clarify what you want your audience to do before you start planning what you want to say to them. Ask yourself: What problem do you want to address? What action do you want people to take? Is it a change in behavior? Avoid trying to say everything.
