Bristol Regional wellness garden meant to educate recovering cardiac patients, staff

BRISTOL, Tenn. – In an effort to educate cardiac patients about the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, Ballad Health and Emory & Henry have collaborated to build a new garden on the grounds of Bristol Regional Medical Center. Food harvested from the wellness garden will be used to teach healthy cooking skills to recovering cardiac patients in the Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab program. Cardiologist Dr. David Beckner first proposed the idea of building the garden after seeing a similar program during a trip to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital in Michigan. “One of the things they shared with me was this wellness garden, and it just immediately clicked.
