Less than two weeks left before the Oct. 29 Excellence Awards submission deadline!

System Updates
We celebrated great improvement projects at the 2026 Excellence Awards banquet!

We’re getting closer to the Oct. 29 deadline for submissions for the 2027 Ballad Health Excellence Awards – but there’s still time to submit a project!

If you’ve been involved in a performance improvement project at Ballad Health, now is your chance to be recognized.

If you’re working on a project but haven’t submitted it yet, please go ahead and start the submission from the project submission site (you don’t have to complete it all at once). This helps us monitor how many entries to expect so organizers can plan for the appropriate number of judges.

And see below to learn more about a new awards category – “Sustaining the Gains.”

Submission period

  • Opened: Monday, Aug. 3, 2026
  • Closes: Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026
  • Awards ceremony: March 2027

Champions of Excellence nominations

Once the group project submission entry period comes to a close on Oct. 29, we will begin the process of accepting nominees for the Champions of Excellence award category.

Resources to assist in submitting projects

There are resources available to help team members understand what is required when submitting a Ballad Health Excellence Awards project. (You can find these documents on the Quality Department’s intranet site.)

Recognition categories

Projects completed since Jan. 1, 2024, are eligible for submission. There are three recognition levels for improvement projects:

  • Improvement Level – Demonstrates improvement beyond the baseline level
  • Implementation Level – Fully implemented project with sustained success
  • Impact Level – Significant, measurable improvement with impact beyond the initial department or facility

Sustaining the Gains Award

Great improvement work doesn’t end when a project is completed. The Sustaining the Gains Award recognizes teams whose improvements have continued to make a difference long after the original project was implemented. This new award will recognize a Level 2 or Level 3 project entered in 2024 that has demonstrated that its improvement has lasted over time.

To be considered, the project must demonstrate that it:

  • Maintained or exceeded its initial results over time
  • Continues to produce the intended results
  • Has become part of the way work is routinely performed

More information, including submission guidelines and details about the award, will soon be posted on the Ballad Health Excellence Awards site. Did your improvement last? Now is the time to show us how your team has sustained the gains.

A Quality Excellence Award will be presented to the project reflecting the most effective and sustainable new process or improvement, achieved by adhering to a systematic improvement/problem-solving approach.

A Chairman’s Quality Award will also be presented to one outstanding project that exemplifies excellence across multiple domains, and individual Champions of Excellence will be recognized.

NOTE: Only certain levels of leadership are eligible to make nominations for Champions of Excellence. For those leaders, your involvement in the nomination process is essential to recognizing the individuals who make a difference in our organization and in the lives of our patients and communities.

Let’s celebrate the excellence that drives Ballad Health forward!
