Transition to Epic Hyperdrive set for Aug. 8; here’s what you need to know

IT & Epic

Ballad Health is upgrading to Epic Hyperdrive, a new platform for accessing Epic Hyperspace, effective Tuesday, Aug. 8. After this change, team members will no longer use Hyperspace as a login option.

The transition will require about a two-hour downtime, from midnight to 2 a.m. on Tuesday. Please follow downtime procedures during this time. IT will send out a notice when the transition is complete.

Why are we upgrading?

This change will benefit our patients and our dedicated frontline team members, and it is a necessary step as we stay up-to-date with the latest Epic upgrades for security purposes.

Clinicians will notice some minor differences in the interface and where information is located, but the overall user experience will be familiar. Epic Hyperdrive will provide a more user-friendly interface for the Epic menu, improving workflows for various activities and tools. Hyperdrive also introduces convenient features and improvements:

  • easy access to commonly used items through the pin icon
  • the ability to rearrange menu items by dragging and dropping
  • easier to deploy and update
  • allows for faster upgrades
  • provides a modern foundation for future developments
  • reinforces patient privacy and data security

Making the transition

We’ve already completed a couple of successful pilots for this transition, so the Aug. 8 transition will serve as the go-live for the rest of Ballad Health.

To ensure a smooth go-live experience, a robust education/training plan has been implemented that includes tip sheets, targeted at-the-elbow support and participation in numerous clinical meetings to review key changes and support resources. Support will be in place through Aug. 11.

For more information on downtime procedures, visit the BCA Downtime Central site on the intranet.

Upon logging in for your shift post-downtime, if you don’t see the change, please log out and then sign back in.
