Whited has served in the interim associate administrator and CNO role at Johnston Memorial since early February. In her previous role, she served as corporate director of clinical staffing support for Ballad Health’s system float pool, leading that department since 2019. She began her nursing career as a frontline registered nurse at Johnston Memorial in 2014 and later held nursing leadership roles within the hospital.

“Melissa has demonstrated great leadership and success in nursing throughout our organization,” said John Jeter, vice president and chief executive officer of Johnston Memorial Hospital, “and we are so excited to have her back at Johnston Memorial to lead and support our nursing team as we seek to continue to provide the best possible care for our community.”

Whited holds both a Master of Science in Nursing Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from King University. She also holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Southwest Virginia Community College and is a member of the Virginia Nurses Association and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership.

Originally from Richlands, Virginia, Whited currently resides in Lebanon with her husband and three children. She is most excited to turn the page on COVID-19 and be able to return to the team and community she is so passionate about serving.

Alison Johnson

Johnson most recently served as director of critical care, leading the hospital’s critical care, step-down and respiratory therapy departments. She began working at Johnson City Medical Center in 2004 as an unlicensed nurse and has held various roles in ICU during her career.

During the pandemic, Johnson assumed additional duties surrounding COVID-19 and was instrumental in the development and implementation of COVID policies, procedures, research and patient care; and in overseeing, supporting and working on the front lines.

In her new role, she will have oversight of inpatient nursing and respiratory therapy and will continue to support our nursing team.

Johnson earned degrees in business management and nursing from East Tennessee State University, and earned her Master of Nursing degree from King University in 2013. She was a 2018 “40 under Forty Honoree” and a 2020 Healthcare Hero, both selected by the Business Journal of Tri-Cities/Virginia.
