Dr. Page Mayo honored by ETSU physical therapy program

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Page Mayo, MD, was recently honored by East Tennessee State University’s physical therapy program as the 2022 Clinical Instructor of Excellence.

Dr. Mayo was presented the award last month when she served as guest speaker for the program’s White Coat Ceremony at East Tennessee State University’s Culp Auditorium.

Each fall, the ETSU physical therapy program presents two clinical education awards – one to a clinical instructor and one to a clinical facility. These awards are given for a variety of reasons, including outstanding service, longstanding support to ETSU and the physical therapy program, excellent clinical instruction, number of students taken, and for taking students across the spectrum of rotations, among other things.

Dr. Mayo is a physical therapist at Holston Valley Medical Center and at Sullivan Center in Kingsport. She is a certified by the American Physical Therapy Association as both a clinical instructor and a stroke rehabilitation specialist, and is pursuing a new certification in pelvic health.

Dr. Mayo has led more than 100 instructional American Heart Association Basic Life Support classes at Ballad Health and in the Tri-Cities region. She also teaches “Safe Patient Handling” classes for new Ballad Health team members, and has been actively involved in community-based initiatives to improve the lives and health of women and children.

Outside of work, she is an avid participant in CrossFit, triathlons and running, having completed seven marathons and two Spartan races. In 2021, she qualified for the age group Spartan World Championship in Liwa, Abu Dhabi. This summer, she qualified for the Spartan North American Championship in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. In September, she competed in a 214-mile Ragnar Relay Race over a 34-hour period.
